The Competition
Over at FEARNet there’s an interview with the director of Saw VI, which as we recently saw (no pun intended) has been given the same release date as The Cabin in the Woods.
So your film’s release date – October 23 – is the same as another anticipated horror film – Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods… any thoughts about the competition?
I saw that. There was an article that mentioned that. I’m not sure how much competition that will cause. But it’s interesting that people don’t see Saw as such a threat to have the same opening day. [Laughs.]Is that a good or a bad thing?
It could be a bad thing, but I’m not concerned. I think we’ll stomp ‘em still. [Laughs.]
Of course, he has it backwards. The Cabin in the Woods received its October 23 release date three months ago, when many people assumed that Saw VI would be released one week later.
So it makes no sense to say that “it’s interesting that people don’t see Saw as such a threat to have the same opening day”, because we don’t yet know what MGM will do now that Saw VI has been given the same release date.
Update: There’s a running thread over on WHEDONesque discussing the competition.
